At Martin Road Eye Care, we know it is important for our patients to understand the differences between vision insurance and medical insurance.
Vision insurance is generally designed for patients where no medical issues with the eyes need to be addressed, such as routine eye exams for glasses and contacts. These plans reduce the cost for routine eye exams and prescription eyewear, including glasses and/or contact lenses.
Medical insurance covers you when there is a medical issue with your eyes. Symptoms such as diabetes, dry eyes, glaucoma, and eye infections will go towards your medical insurance.
It may be necessary for us to bill some services to one plan and some services to the other. We will follow a procedure called Coordination of Benefits to do this properly and to minimize your out-of-pocket expense. If some fees are not paid by your insurance, we will bill them to you, such as deductibles, copays, or non-covered services.
At Martin Road Eye Care, we accept the following Medical Plans: Medicaid, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana, Insurance Management Services (IMS), Maxor, Medicare, and United Healthcare. We also accept Vision Plans from Medicaid, Amerigroup, CompBenefits, Eyemed, Opticare, Superior Vision Services, and Vision Service Plan (VSP).

Flexible Spending Accounts
Many employers are offering Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) options to employees. Flexible spending accounts is a tax-favored program that allows employees to pay for eligible out-of-pocket health care and dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars. These plans are designed to let you save money in an account, pre-tax, to pay for additional medical expenses such as eye exams, glasses, and contact lenses.
