Use compatible solutions and use fresh solution for your contact lenses. Do not top off the disinfection solution. Risk of infection increases when you do not refill the case with all fresh solution.

Replace the contact lens case. You must replace your lens case at least every 3 months. A good idea is to replace it every major holiday: New Years, Valentine’s, Easter, July 4th, Labor day, and Thanksgiving.

Rub your contact lenses! After removing your lenses, rub them for 10 seconds before putting them in the case. Ignore solution directions that suggest “No Rub”. Rubbing can remove 98% of pathogens, including Acanthomoeba which can cause blindness.

Trash your old contacts. Always throw away at the recommended replacement schedule and keep a pair of back-up glasses so you are not tempted to over wear your lenses.

Good hygiene is vital. Not only should you wash your hands well before touching your lenses, but keep the area where your contacts are stored tidy and sanitized. Replace the cap on the tip of your solution after using. It is also important to know the symptoms of eye infections.
